Abstract:

During winters 2012 and 2013, forty-one caves were searched at least once for hibernating bats on Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve (CRMO). Three new hibernacula were documented. All bats in each newly discovered hibernaculum were identified as Townsend’s big-eared bats (Corynorhinus townsendii). Additionally, a new high count of 33 bats was recorded in Arco Tunnel, likely including the first CRMO record of hibernating Yuma myotis (Myotis yumanensi) and potentially long-eared myotis (Myotis evotis). (Detector recording from April 2014 are also mentioned.)
