In studying a bird species it is often value to be able to segregate individuals into age groups. Differential behavior of old and young birds and age composition of populations cannot be determined unless age classes can be recognized. This paper describes a method of age determination, dependent on a peculiarity of plumage molt, that seem to hold for at least nine species of American quail.
