Species Account:
While riding as a passenger with Roger Trombetta, I notice a Whitetail doe whose rear right leg was hung up on the top wire of a barbed wire fence. We were on HWY 64 just outside of Kamiah. Her right rear hip appeared to be dislocated from trying to struggle free from the fence. I cut her right leg free from the fence. Her left leg was also tangled near the bottom of the fence and I could see where the wire had cut into her leg to the point where the leg bone was exposed. I freed her left leg from the fence. Once free, she attempted to get up but it was impossible for her due to the dislocated hips. We then took pictures of her and called Erin Landers. Roger spoke to her and described the situation. We agreed to dispatch the injured deer and salvage the meat. I shot the deer at the base of her neck and gutted her. We took her to my house in Nezperce and cleaned her out with a hose and hung her in a cool shop. Roger sent some pictures to Erin via smartphone.
