Whooper Swan--December 3, 2008:--***--Swan as described in Idaho Bird Records Committee Record #: 5-A-08, 26 November - 7 December 2008.--***--Location: Swimming on Snake River. Seen from Bell Rapids Road at Owsley Bridge (just past intersection with road S 1000 E). --***--Observed for 20 minutes with 10x40 Zeiss and Bushnell 15x45 spotting scope at 30-40 yards. Bright light, no obstructions. Swan was in the same immediate area during observation; stationary at times.--***--Description: Distinguishable from accompanying tundra/trumpeter swans by extensive yellow on black bill, yellow extending to a point past middle of bill. Yellow on underside of bill also noted (photo 3).
