Species Account:
Observed a Western Grebe tangled in fishing line that was about 5 feet from the shore and could not swim away from me. I was able to catch the bird and get the fishing line untangled from around its neck then released the bird. It swam away and eventually started hunting for food. Good thing the Bald Eagles were not around this morning or this bird and the eagle could have been in big trouble.
