Species Account:
Observed with 10X binoculars for 10-20 minutes (and photographed) one Yellow-billed Cuckoo while it foraged silently in riparian shrubs within 10 m of our deck. No typical cuckoo vocalization heard before, during or after this sighting. I am extremely familiar with this species since we live in central Texas most of the year and have them nestiing on our property near Austin.
One Yellow-billed Cuckoo observed (and photographed) for 10-20 minutes within 10 m of our deck while it foraged in dense riparian shrubs on a steep slope. At no point did it vocalize, and I have yet to hear this species in the area. This is the first time I have observed this species at our Idaho home in 12 summers. I live in central Texas (near Austin) most of the year and have Yellow-billed Cuckoos nesting near our Texas home, I am also an experienced bird bander and Golden-cheeked Warbler researcher.
