Species Account:
I turned onto Wagon Wheel Road. from Lovers Lane at about 6:15 p.m. and saw a shorebird I had not seen in this area before sitting in a shallow puddle from an overflowing irrigation ditch. I stopped the car and got out to observe the bird. At first I thought it may be be injured since it didn't fly. But as I walked closer it flew a short distance to another overflow area in a cottonwood gallery. I saw the black bars on the wings which helped me tentatively identify the bird as a Hudsonian Godwit.
