Species Account:
My daughter and I recently camped at Wild Goose campground on Hwy 12 and were swimming in the sandy beach area on the Lochsa when we found some mussels on the beach and in the water. The inside of the shell was a very pretty purple. They were long, about five inches, and very narrow. I took some pictures so I could try to identify what type of mussels they were. The closest image to what I found, was a canadian website with an image of a western pearlshell, but I couldn't find any reference to them living in Idaho waters. Is it a western pearlshell?
