Species Account:
Found lots of whitewash, dark colored primary feathers, and several smaller white feathers beneath an old grand fir tree (~30+ DBH). Upon further examination a large nest could be seen nestled within the upper 1/3 of the tree. The top of the tree forks out and the nest was placed between these two large limbs and a cluster of branches below was being used as a base for the nest. It was a windy day, so the tree was swaying pretty significantly and as it was swinging, we could get eyes on a juvenile bald eagle sitting in the nest flapping its wings for balance. It was a massive raptor and possessed dark plumage with no sign of white yet.
