Species Account:
It was sunning itself in the garden when I walked up and startled it. As it scurried off, the darker striped pattern, larger head, and long tail were remarkable. It ran from the gravel in the garden into the grass under some conifers, then stopped. I have never seen a lizard this size (about 10-12 inches) here. I wish I had a photo! The number and size of reptiles in the yard this year seems unusual (also racers-4-6 ft., gopher snakes-5 ft., and sagebrush lizards)
