Note: On arrival noted one bird flying, another sitting on nest. After one hour flying bird has not returned and bird on nest has remained on nest, only moving her head. At ~12:06 pm the female bird on the nest left the nest, revealing 4 eggs (brown). After a few minutes the male landed at the nest site and sat on the eggs, slightly rearranging them. No food transfer was observed. At ~12:15 the female lands at the nest site and the male leaves. The presence of the male and female at the same time allowed us to determine the sex; the female was much larger than the male. The female sat on the eggs, slightly rearranging them. The male flew to a Juniper about 20 yards along and slightly up the cliff face and remained there; he was observed calling and preening his chest feathers. Both birds remained in these positions until we left the sight at ~12:35 pm.A red tailed hawk was observed in a conifer copse located ~500 yards from the observation point; kestrels were observed flying in the canyon, 10 turkey vultures were observed soaring high above the canyon. This observation post is across the canyon from the nest site and slightly higher in elevation allowing full visual access to the nest. Photos of the female on the nest and of the 4 eggs were taken through a spotting scope.
