It was sitting on a dead tree branch that was sticking out of the water, approximately 10 feet from shore. That particular part of the shore was weeds and grass by the greenbelt, not by a beach or landscaped rocks The shell looked like it was about 10 inches long. I was very close to it until it went down in the water.
