Habitat Description:
Open area, ca 300 yds W of the disposal dump, at summit of a small S-facing knoll subjected to high wind velocities from the SW. Shrubs usually associated with older cinder cones are present. The soil and plant composition of this station is much the same as at Station 3, except Balsamorhiza sagittata is not present and there are dense stands of Elymus (Leymus) condensatus with scattered Oryzopsis hymenoides. Water from a constantly dripping faucet just S of this station attracted many insects (Horning and Barr 1970).
