Survey
Survey Site:
Chilly Buttes
Survey Intensity:

Population
EO Number:
11
EO ID:
2619
EO History:
revisit
Population Area:
3 acres occupied
More potential habitat to survey:
yes
Suggestions for other areas to survey:
Additional searches on Chilly Buttes might find more patches of plants to the east (there appears to be suitable habitat, but it was too late in the summer for me to confidently survey for this species). The occupied habitat on Chilly Buttes could be mapped more precisely. I thought Peck's Canyon might contain habitat, but I did not find anything that looked suitable.
Monitoring or research needs for this population:
Threats are minimal (mining). A drive by look every year and a foot survey every 5 years is adequate.
Management needs for this population:
None.
Additional population comments:
This location was found by Chris Murphy in 2001, but does not appear to have been visited since then. Murphy estimated the occurrence at 1000-5000 individuals in 3 “subpopulations.” I relocated the SW subpopulation, and the SE subpopulation, and I observed several small patches of 20-100 plants across the south slope above the cemetery. My population outlines are a little different than Chris’s (I didn’t have his map in the field with me), and should be considered very approximate.
Photos are associated with each waypoint and are a part of the Mountain Springs Allotment Rare Plant Survey Report.
GPS coordinates do not necessarily conform to population boundaries, but are tied directly to photopoints that may be useful for monitoring general habitat condition changes in the future.
