I observed 9 Common Nighthawks for several minutes in Lewiston, Idaho. Birds were foraging between 30 and 80 feet high in a residential neighborhood. Identified by long, narrow pointed wings with white wingbars, buoyant flight with alternating periods of gliding and flapping, and characteristic short, repeated high pitched "beep" call.
