Slightly smaller than another red-tailed in view. Dark overcoat - no speckled or mottled scapulars. Had dark or black terminal line on trailing edge of wings. Speckled/striped throat and breast. Black belly band and flanks. Black patagials - black or dark all of the underwing. Fingertips dipped in ink. White or light tail - no band at the tip.
