Species Account:
Spent the day with Al Larson checking Mtn. bluebird boxes on the Owyhee Bluebird Trail out of Oreana on Bachman Grade Rd. Had a great day with Al! Didn't get a chance to really bird since we checked 67 boxes and banded about 40 some nestlings and even some adult females that hadn't been banded before. At one point he rained a lot when we were at Bridge Creek crossing. We ate lunch there while it poured for about 20 minutes. Then we crossed the creek (nice gravel bottom) but getting up the hill from it proved too slippery with the gumbo mud and we had to abort that mission. 20 boxes went unchecked. Hope to get back there soon to help him bach a bunch of nestlings that were too young to band. Also lots of eggs laid that should be new nestlings soon. A few heartbreaks with a dead female (wease probably) and nestlings gone that should have been there to band (snake or weaset). Al just shruggs, writes down the info and heads to the next box. Guess you get used to that. Fun day and hope I get to go again with Al!
