Species Account:
My wife and I observed what we believe was a river otter swimming in Big Rainbow Lake. It had dark brown fur, lighter colored cheeks and a fur-covered tail that was round and tapered to a point. It was swimming and diving and made vocal noises like an otter. It was much larger than a mink and had pointy teeth unlike a muskrat. We were only able to take a low quality video of it swimming. We were intrigued by this animal as we had never heard of otters living at such a high elevation (~8,000 ft). I would love to confirm this sighting if possible! Thank you.
