Habitat Description:
"[E]levation of 6000 feet on . . . northeast slope of Sunset Cone, which consists primarily of decomposed cinders with small outcroppings of broken lava. Dominant trees are Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca, Pinus flexilis, Populus tremuloides, and Salix spp. [P]rincipal shrubs are Artemisia tridentata, Chamaebatiaria millefolium, Purshia tridentata, and Ribes cereum. Herbs include Chaenactis douglas[ii?], Eriogonum ovalifolium, E. umbellatum, Lupinus spp., and Potentilla spp. A small, treeless flat at the bottom of the slope dominated by the shrub Chrysothamnus nauseosus and the grass Elymus condensatus also has the herbs species found further up the slope. Wind velocities occasionally were high at this station, as evidenced by the small pieces of cinder embedded in many of the grass stems" (Horning and Barr 1970).

Date Time:
July 9, 1965 (All day) to September 13, 1965 (All day)
Date/Time Precision:
Three Months
Date Notes:
Though U70HOR01IDUS provides the month/day range for sightings, the year was not indicated and could have been 1964, 1965, or 1967, but "most of the field collections and observations" for the entire study were "made in 1965," so that year is used here.
