Survey

Survey Site:
Lower Horse Basin Creek
Survey Intensity:
fairly thorough

Population

EO Number:
20
EO ID:
520
EO History:
addition
Population Area:
0.5 acre
More potential habitat to survey:
yes
Suggestions for other areas to survey:
This is an odd population. The spot was apparently dug out a bit during installation of a culvert under Horse Basin Creek Road, or perhaps cleaned out after an event. The draw to the north contains obvious habitat for Oxytropis besseyi, Astragalus aquilonius, and Thelypodium repandum. It is outside the Mountain Springs Allotment, however, so I did not spend much time looking. I examined the SE facing hill just north of the population and found nothing. The best habitat is a bit further north on more south facing slopes (see map at end of report). The survey was fairly thorough within the immediate area.
Monitoring or research needs for this population:
Occasional visits.
Additional population comments:
Photos are associated with each waypoint and are a part of the Mountain Springs Allotment Rare Plant Survey Report.
GPS coordinates do not necessarily conform to population boundaries, but are tied directly to photopoints that may be useful for monitoring general habitat condition changes in the future.
