Species Account:
The doe was found dead in my orchard at 5:25 PM. Two small fawns were seen in the orchard that morning by my daughter, but she didn't go near the orchard because she didn't want to scare them. She did not see the doe at that time but figured she was lying down in the orchard, which is common. The doe was found on her right side with no apparent signs of struggling on the ground. There were abrasions on her face and ears. She was in good body condition with no other injuries found. The udder was not markedly distended, so I am hoping that the fawns belonged to another doe. She appears to be a young adult based on the lack of wear on the teeth. The orchard is adjacent to the county road and deer graze in my yard and orchard almost daily. I called the office at 5:27 and the receptionist said to go ahead and dress her out since I told her that I could at least make sure the meat and organs could be used for the rehabbing raptors and owls. If you have any questions, you may certainly reach me at Alameda Pet Hospital. - Dr. Crystal
