Our working and turned to birding.
Four cranes flew over, circling, flapping, gaining altitude. Before they managed to get too high, and on a circle back, I got a great photo. They continued circling higher and drifted to the south, eventually out of sight. Then 6 more appeared to follow the same procedure, but headed to the north, but are probably leaving also. They are probably headed for warmer climates now. I mentioned before that the cranes are here in some numbers that probably no one has ever recorded. My sister sent me a photo taken, from this house (middle of August), of cranes in the hayfield across the fence line. There were at least 25 in that photo----It's possible the rufous hummingbirds and the rock wrens may have also left as haven't seen any for several days.
