Abstract:

This Bat Management Plan is produced to meet the Caribou National Forest Revised Forest Plan (CNF RFP) objective “Implementation time table for Spotted Bat and Western [Townsend's] Big-eared Bat Habitat: #3[: W]ithin five years of signing the ROD (2003), develop management plans for any caves, mine shafts, and other suitable habitats where these bat species are known to be present” (CNF RFP 5-4). The CNF is the southern zone of the Caribou–Targhee National Forest comprising the Soda Springs, Montpelier, and Westside (Pocatello and Malad) Ranger Districts. This document provides 1) a summary of the bat surveys, 2) a list of bat hibernacula on the CNF and barriers restricting human access at Minnetonka Cave and old abandoned mine adits, and 3) recommendations. This bat management plan will be updated and revised as needed to reflect new information.
