Abstract:

The Wyoming ground squirrel (Urocitellus [formerly Spermophilus] elegans Kennicott, 1863) is a big-eared ground squirrel of small to medium size with a relatively long tail. Two subspecies have been described. This species account summarizes what is known of the ground squirrel’s characteristics, distribution, form and physiology, ontogeny and reproduction, ecology, genetics, and behavior.
