Abstract:

Eleven genera (Cordillacris Rehn, 1901, Phlibostroma Scudder, 1875, Mermiria Stål, 1873, Paropomala Scudder, 1899, Mesopsis I. Bolivar, 1906, Acantherus Scudder and Cockerell, 1902, Pedioscirtetes Thomas, 1873, Bootettix Bruner, 1890, Acrolophitus Thomas, 1871, Chloealtis Harris, 1841, and Achurum Saussure, 1861) are reviewed or revised. Five generic synonyms are confirmed and nine described as new. Similarly twenty subspecies or species synonyms are confirmed, and six described as new. Habitat and cytological notes are added where appropriate, and some possible isolatory mechanisms between subspecies discussed.
