Abstract:

This recovery plan for the white sturgeon, Kootenai River population, includes an overview of the the species' status, ecosystem, and history. Reasons for the species' decline are discussed, as well as conservation measures and strategy for recovery. Short-term recovery objectives are to re-establish successful natural recruitment and prevent extinction through the use of conservation aquaculture. The long-term objective is to downlist and then delist the fish when the population becomes self-sustaining. Criteria required for reclassification or downlisting to threatened status are enumerated. Recovery actions are explained with specific tasks.
