Abstract:

Surveys for northern goshawks (Accipiter gentilis) were conducted in the Cassia and Albion Mountain divisions of the Sawtooth National Forest. Approximately 162 km2 of potential nesting habitat were surveyed requiring 251.7 hours/f survey time to cover 604 calling stations. Thirty goshawk responses resulted in the location of 8 nest areas within the Cassia division. No goshawks were detected in the Albion Mountain division. Eight historical nest areas were checked for current breeding activity. Five historical nest areas were active in 1994 while 3 were not.
