Abstract:

This book results from almost four decades of research and practical experience with native trout (cutthroat, rainbow, Gila, and related indigenous trout) of western North America. It addresses the evolution, taxonomy, and present distributions of members of this group of fishes and proposes a conservation philosophy to sustain them. The book contains black and white drawings, color plates, a thorough bibliography, a useful glossary of taxonomic and ecological terms, and an index. It is intended for fisheries managers, students of salmonid evolution, taxonomists, and fishermen who want to learn more about the trout they pursue.
