Abstract:

Volume Five, Asterales by Arthur Cronquist

INTRODUCTION: Volume 5 of our Flora, treating the family Asteraceae, is the fifth part to be published, following on volumes 1 , 6, 4, and part B of volume 3. <br>

This entire volume was written by Cronquist. Preliminary manuscript was provided to the other authors for comment, in continuation of past practice. Rupert Barneby has read the whole manuscript and made valuable suggestions. James Morefield has provided information about some of the smaller genera of Inuleae. [Cronquist] consulted with T. M. Barkley about Senecio, with Randall J. Bayer about Antennaria, with William S. Davis on Malacothrix, with Gerald B. Ownbey on Cirsium, and with Almut G. Jones and John C. Semple about Aster. None of these advisors is to be held responsible for anything in this volume. The taxonomic, nomenclatural, and bibliographic interpretations are [Cronquist's] own.
