Abstract:

This alphabetic checklist of scientific and common names of vascular plants of North America was compiled to facilitate communication among wildlife biologists. <br> The checklist was assembled by listing scientific plant names published in The Journal of Wildlife Management (Vols. 21-42), Wildlife Society Bulletin (Vols. 1-6), and Wildlife Monographs (Nos. 1-61). Thus, it includes plants commonly reported upon by wildlife biologists and provides a base for future review and revision. In an effort to insure the validity of scientific names, A Provisional Checklist of Species for Flora North America (Shetler and Skog 1978) was adopted as the authoritative guide. Rejected scientific names (synonyms) are listed in the checklist to the left of the equal sign. Only those plant names found in the wildlife literature examined and later rejected on what is believed to be good authority are listed as synonyms.
