I've been told all my life that it is unlawful to "carry an uncased weapon in the field" without a hunting license. Today I tried searching Idaho statutes and IDAPA rules for this restriction and was unable to locate it. Can you tell me if this is true? And if so can you provide the legal citation and answer if a holstered handgun carried for personal protection violates this restriction.
Thanks,
Joe Nichols
Answer:
It is your US Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Long ago we used to require a hunting license to possess a firearm in the field in Idaho. It was challenged and recinded.
Current Idaho Code restricts the carry of 'concealed' weapons. If your handgun is not concealed you are in compliance with the law.
If you wish to carry a weapon concealed you must obtain a Concealed Weapon Carry permit.
