Status of Rulemaking

This proposed rule is published in the September 2, 2020, Idaho Administrative Bulletin.

A public comment period was open from September 2 to September 23, 2020.

Description

This rulemaking proposal would establish that any person whose name is drawn on any controlled pronghorn hunt (including any either-sex or doe or fawn hunt) may not apply for any other controlled pronghorn hunt for one year. Under existing controlled hunt eligibility rules, individuals who are drawn for an antlered-only controlled deer or elk hunt are not eligible to apply for an antlered-only controlled hunt for the species they drew for one year. There is no waiting period for controlled hunts for pronghorn. This proposed rule change is intended to place similar restrictions on pronghorn controlled hunts as it currently exists for antlered-only deer and elk hunts, and is expected to increase the odds of drawing a pronghorn controlled hunt tags in some hunts.

The one-year waiting period would not apply to controlled hunts with an unlimited number tags or to Landowner Appreciation Program tags. Further, an individual who drew a controlled pronghorn tag would be eligible to apply for a pronghorn tag in the second application period or to purchase a leftover tag the following year.
