Species Account:
The elk was hit by a car/truck before I got there. He was a small spike, his left spike was broken off when I arrived. I assume it broke off by the impact of the hit. The spike on his head was on his right side and the length was about a foot and a half, the width was around an inch or so. He was laying in the middle of Croy Canyon road. He was spilling guts and blood out of his insides and he was paralyzed, unable to move. I took the responsibility to dispatch the animal. I salvaged his shoulders and legs and transported his carcass 3-4 miles out Rock Creek road and disposed it on BLM land in sagebrush, away from hikers, bikers, and traffic. I don't have pictures, but I am an an avid hunter and I am absolutely certain that he was a young bull elk.
