At around 2am 9/13/2019, we saw an animal laying in the road. Upon closer inspection we could see that it was a young white tailed deer that appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. We have many deer in the area and in fact the mother(we believe) was near the sceen watching nervously. We could tell the animal was in a great deal of pain but it could not get up or walk and was most definitely dying slowly. Who ever had struck it was no where to be found. Because we didnt want anyone else to get hurt we decided we should move it and were able to pick it up and move it out of the roadway into the grassy empty lot next to street. It was still writhing in pain and agony, so we did the obly thing we could think of and ended its life with a quick, but swift, hit to its head with a baeball bat. It immediately stopped beeathing and passed. We have no way to dispose of the carcass though and had to leave it in the feild. I will call animal control and ask them to dispose of it properly and quickly because it is located in a walking district nearby an elementary school, Borah Elementary. And i would hate for it to scare any children on their way to school.
I hope what we did was ok, we tried to reseach any laws on the subject and i believe we were within all laws. We couldnt just let it suffer.
