Species Account:
5x5 bull elk. We were in tamarack road coming from 3 bear road. We saw the elk and then it immediately laid down about 20 yards from us. We watched it, but would never stand up. I told my husband something isn’t right here. We should not be able to get this close to a bull elk. He finally tried to stand up but was very wobbly and couldn’t hardly walk, he was dragging his back legs. We called IFG and after multiple conversations with them they told us to put it down. Our first though was that someone shot it with a .22 and it was hurt, but then we walked up the road and saw where he had been dragging his hind quarters about 100 yards so then we thought that someone hit it. We were told to put the elk down and salvage what we could. When we were cutting the back straps off we found a broad head stuck in him, it is still very sharp so we think that someone saw him within the last 24-36 hours and shot it with a cross bow. We have the arrow in our freezer for IFG to pick up. Idaho fish and game contact John 208-827-1488
