Species Account:
I was driving east bound on 53 from spirit lake the night of 1/14/19 when I spotted a nearly mature buck partially In my lane visably injured (bleeding from the mouth) and unable to use its hind legs, which he was dragging at a 180 degree angle to the rest of its body. I pulled my truck over and dispatched the animal, knowing of the recent law change. At that point, being after hours for fish and game, I called and reported it to 911 who reminded me me that I can dispatch the animal. They later told me I could salvage the animal, which I did. From my hunting experience, I would guess the deer weighed around 180 pounds and was 3 years old.
I apologize for the late report directly to fish and game, there was a medical emergency later that night (no connection to the salavaged deer) that delayed my ability to write a report.
