Species Account:
The animal was a female fawn (probably this years). I am sure the animal was behaving normally as she was just running across the road and ran into the side of my vehicle. I seen her out the side next to the drivers door before she struck the truck. I immediately looked into the side rear view mirror as she was flipped under the rear tire of my truck and trailer. After I had turned around to return to her she was laying still on the side of the road still breathing. It looked as though she had retained damage to the skull and one back leg. After assessing the animals injuries I quickly dispatched the animal by cutting the throat and windpipe. She was gone within seconds. I have never hit an animal in my vehicle and felt pretty bad but hate to see an animal suffer or go to waste. It was after dark and did not take any photos. I immediately called a Caribou County Sheriff to see how to proceed.
