the animal had been clipped on the back left side by a passing semi resulting in a severely damaged leg. He was a 6x6 bull elk still in the velvet and about 600 ish pounds. He would bed down and then stand up but could not effectively walk. We called Idaho State Police to report the incident on 7/30/2018 around 6:30 am and they dispatched a IFG officer to the mile marker 25 site on salmon HWY 28 northbound who then dispatched the animal himself. the animal died in a jefferson county gravel pit. the IFG officer called the county who dispatched a rep to open the gate and allowed us to retrieve the animal.
