Species Account:
A deer ran out into the front of my vehicle which I was unable to avoid due to high snow bank on the right and an oncoming vehicle in the other Lane. I slowed before hitting the animal but it was not enough to avoid contact and the back legs were broken. An ID Fish and Game vehicle was behind me when I struck the animal and the driver indicated to me that he would inform the local game warden (who lived down the hwy). The deer was still alive but thrashing in traffic, and I didn't not have a firearm but used a knife to humanely out the animal down. I pulled the animal out of traffic and cleaned it. I did notice a fetus present within. I left the innards in the woods and took the carcass with me, per instructions of the game warden who showed up as I was pulling the animal from the ditch.
