Species Account:
While driving south on Highway 93 approaching Elk Bend, a small doe suddenly appeared at full gallop immediately before the intersection with Granite. She tried to jump through the front passenger side window. She shattered the window, dented every body panel on the passenger side, and landed limp on the road. We circled back just as two Idaho Power employees stopped to inspect the doe. Lloyd Neff was one of the employees. He called Fish & Game office in Salmon in our behalf to inquire about the salvage. Thereafter we removed the whole animal for salvage, which was performed back in Salmon today. During harvesting, it was noted that she sustained severe internal bleeding. Much of the meat was bruised and unsuitable for consumption. UNfortunately she had a developed mammary glands, which were producing milk. Neighbors who witnessed the collision stated that she had been actively nursing two young fawns in the local area. They hoped the fawns were old enough to survive without their mother.
