Species Account:
We were driving down Mink Creek Canyon and seen a deer bedded down, approximately 1 foot from edge of the road. As I slowed down, I noticed a car parked in a driveway, and went to ask if they knew about anyone hitting this deer. We walked over towards the deer and when about 40 feet away, the deer attempted to stand and get away. It appeared that both back legs were broken, couldn't stand up, and was trying to drag itself with one front leg. So the lady asked me if I had a gun so I could put it out of its misery. I asked if that was even legal, then called ISP who called Bannock County Sheriff. Deputy Michael Jons from Patrol Division arrived on scene to put the deer down. I asked him if we cold salvage the meat, he said yes, but make sure to fill out the road kill salvage report on this website.
