Species Account:
This was a medium/young aged white tail buck, 4 point (approximately 100 inch typical frame), which was hit by an unknown vehicle causing both front legs to be broken. The front left leg had a severe compound fracture as a result of the collision and the deer was unable to walk. The injured deer was lying injured in the ditch for an unknown amount of time before I observed it while passing by on Hwy 12, MP 20.1 at approximately 1056 hours, on 11/23/2015. The vehicle which struck the deer was not on scene and it is unknown who/what struck the deer. I contacted the Lewiston F&G office who dispatched ISP who arrived on scene at approximately 1127 hours. The injured deer crawled away from the shoulder as the trooper approached and moved into an adjacent field filled with numerous thick trees and brush.
ISP Cpl. Trooper (684 or 685 (I can't remember his name or exact badge number)) fired 2 rounds from his patrol rifle, striking the deer in the left hind leg. The injured deer moved further into the brush/trees out of sight. The Trooper instructed me to put the injured deer down since I had a larger caliber rifle. After a short track through the trees, I had a clear shot and was able to cleanly dispatch the injured deer.
I retrieved the animal, gutted, and skinned it.
