Species Account:
The elk is brown with black under belly. It was a 6 x 6 bull elk. It was running across road/highway when my car hit it. It died on the side of the road with what appeared as 2 broken legs. Butte County sheriff and the INL security team responded along with INL fire department. It happened at 6:40 am on Nov 3rd, 2015 going east on US 20 Marker 267/268. The elk died approx 1 hour after accident from its wounds. No injuries to myself but the car is totaled.
My husband arrived at scene at approx. 1000 and we loaded the elk. We prepped the elk and injuries appeared to be to both hind legs and where animal died from. I did call the Fish and Game at 0900 to notify of them of elk being hit by my car and that we were going to "salvage the animal". She informed me of the rules and that I had 72 hours to complete this report. Pam Hoggan
