Species Account:
My mother-in-law called me in cell service to say it looked like a bear at the end of our driveway by our mailbox on the morning of 9/3/15, approx. 10am. I went down to check and found that it was a sow black bear and was deceased, it looked obviously like it had been hit on the road. There were 2 small tears in the hide on it's side and back right leg, blood out it's nose and mouth, and there was a big lump in the lower abdomen. It was black with a white patch on it's chest, approximately 200 lbs. When my husband got home that afternoon from guiding, he skinned it and found that it did have milk. Robert Millage of Kamiah had publicly posted a picture of a sow and 2 cubs swimming across the Middle Fork of the Clearwater River just a couple miles above our house the day before, so it may be the same bear. I have not seen any cubs around though. I reported the bear right away to Roger Westfall and he explained the salvage possibility.
