Most American Avocets were adults; few immatures seen, perhaps victims of predation or simply out of view in surrounding grass, although adults had generally stopped defending the area. Most Gadwalls were young; c. 8 were adults. Wilson's Phalaropes were juveniles. 5 of 7 Northern Shovelers were immatures. 1 of 3 Western Sandpipers was adult.
