Species Account:
On Friday, June 20, 2014 four of us backcountry pilots were sitting around a campfire about 8:00 PM at Chamberlain, US Forest Service Airstrip in Idaho. I/we observed one lone bear circling our camping area in the small re-growth lodgepole trees about thirty feet away from us. Since it was still very light out it was easy to see that there was just one bear. The color was medium/light tan. One of our party started yelling at the bear and he did not move away. The camper then grabbed some dinner pans and began banging on them. The bear moved away slowly. Then it came back as I was going to my tent to get my camera. The bear stood on its back legs and looked around at us and then slowly ambled down the side of the airstrip. I got zoom/video of the bear moving away from us from about 100 to 200 yards away.
