Species Account:
This past fall I was deer hunting in the Frank Church River of no Return Wilderness. Just the other side of Vanity Summit up the Silver Ck. drainage. I was watching a hillside, when from down below me a dark looking critter came up from the creek. It was walking briskly along, when at about 10yds, it stopped and looked right at me. I was looking at his face and did not see the mask that wolverines have and it was a little bit smaller than a wolverine, and much bigger than a marten. I did not know what this critter was until I did some investigating and it had all the characteristics of a fisher. The encounter lasted less than a minute but made my whole week. This encounter happened around Sept. 17, 2013.
