Species Account:
Non-target trap mortality during control action for wolves. Leg hold trap set by Doug Hansen 9/13/10. Trap had 8-ft drag on it and swivel, but the way the animal got pinned in logs didn't allow it to swivel and broke both bones in left front leg above paw. Doug dispatched on site. No ear tags and no evidence of holes from lost tags. Teats on lower abdomen. Teeth very clean and not worn, except recent injuries from chewing to escape trap. Tissue sample collected from ear; hair samples collected. Carcass in freezer at IDFG, McCall.
