Ditch Spring
Survey Intensity:
fairly thorough

Population

EO Number:
36
EO ID:
2510
EO History:
revisit
Population Area:
2.3 acres
More potential habitat to survey:
unsure
Suggestions for other areas to survey:
sandy soils in the area. We thoroughly surveyed Subpopulation 1 and believe we have mapped the extent of it; we are less confident that we surveyed the entire extent of Subpopulation 2. It may extend further south and west, as we continued to find isolated plants toward that direction.
Management needs for this population:
Noxious weed control
Additional population comments (e.g., # of subpopulations): 2 subpopulations. Subpopulation 1 is the western one and is on the north side of the road; subpopulation 2 is the eastern one and on the south side of the road.
Subpopulation 2 burned in 2017 (Mammoth Cave Fire), but the last time Subpopulation 1 burned was 1959; the road stopped the 2017 fire. Subpopulation 2 is more weedy with invasive annual plants and rush skeletonweed beginning to establish; we did not see any rush skeletonweed on the north side of the road (Subpopulation 1). Subpopulation 2 is also seeded with Siberian wheatgrass; Siberian wheatgrass is very sparse in Subpopulation 1.
