Update: Edit made per correspondence with Jason by Ben Studer on 9/10. The species is very likely a cinnamon black bear with cubs after a follow-up discussion with the black bear hunters in the area.
Original report submitted by Jason Husseman on 9/8
Ron Mazuret (208-661-0881) stopped into the R7 office today to report what he is certain was a female grizzly with 3 cubs while elk hunting in the area. I asked if he had seen grizzlies and he said he has on multiple occasions in the Montana area (e.g., Glacier NP); he mentioned the dished face, large size, rounded ears, and humped shoulder. This area is approximately 20 mile NW of a confirmed (via trail camera) sighting in the Big Hole of Montana.
